Staycation....

The past week could be considered a staycation for us.  We probably won't be going on a vacation this year, so this is as close as we could get.  It started last weekend with us going to a little league baseball tournament to watch our friend's son play.  Mateo has really taking a liking to baseball, so I see some T-ball in our future pretty soon.  Since we went to the game, he's been practicing throwing and catching and watching the Rangers with Juan.

Next stop on Monday was Great Wolf Lodge, which is an indoor waterpark and hotel in Grapevine, about 30 minutes away from our house.  We booked a room for 2 nights, because you have to in order to use the water park.  It was our first time there, and it was a lot of fun.  It was really catered toward toddlers, which is shocking for a water park.  They also had several restaurants, and story time and shows at night.  Mateo really had a great time, and as you can tell from the pictures, there weren't many people since we went during an off-time.

The only problem was with the sleeping arrangements.  We only had one room with 2 queen beds, and this was only the second time Mateo has ever slept in a bed with one of us.  It was a disaster!  Between not being able to sleep with us in the room and Mia waking him up when she woke up to eat, I got absolutely no sleep.  Needless to say, we stayed at home in our own beds the second night, and just drove back the next day to play in the water park.

This was one of the water playgrounds.  The giant bucket on top would fill with water and then dump on the playground.

The toddler water slides - this was one of Mateo's favorite spots.

The lazy river - this was my favorite.

Taking a break with some lemonade - the new drink of choice.

We went and ate at the Rainforest Cafe for lunch and he passed out at the table.  This was a first.  Mateo has never fallen asleep anywhere except his crib, except for once at Sea World.

At story time in his pajamas.
That peaceful slumber didn't last long.  And when he would wake up in the middle of the night he always asked for fruit snacks.  He didn't eat them, just wanted to hold them.

The final stop of the week was Six Flags.  My company was part of a charity event and they opened the park just for a few companies, so we virtually had it to ourselves.  We figured this was the only time we would take Mateo to Six Flags so we wanted to try it and see what would happen.  He had a blast riding the rides.  We were a little nervous putting him on them at first, but he rode all the kiddie rides, even the ones he had to ride alone.

It pays to be tall - he was able to ride all the kiddie rides.

The roller coaster.  Juan was able to go on this one with him.  He must have had fun because he wanted to go on it more than once.

The tea cups.  I thought he would freak out on this one and he didn't.  He spent most of the time staring at the other kids that were riding it.

Mateo was very excited about meeting Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Tweety Bird.  I'm not sure why, or how he even knows these characters, since Loony Tunes is our era and not his.

And finally Friday a little adult time - Juan and I went to a charity crawfish boil while Lady kept Mia and Mateo was at school.  We had a nice relaxing time.

I went for the hushpuppies instead of the crawfish.

We came home to a new pool - at least it looks new.  We had it replastered this week from white to a dark blue.  Here are some before and after pictures.

And finally, here are some recent pics of Mia.

She has already got very strong neck muscles, and she does quite a bit of tummy time without fussing about it.

We get real smiles nowadays, not just gas smiles, especially in the morning after a good bottle.
