It was a good weekend. We went to the Fort Worth Stock Show today. I figured Mateo would love it, because he loves animals. As we went through the different buildings with the different animals he would spend the whole time making the noises that the animals were making. It was very cute!
Mateo is 16 months now, and it really seems like every day he does something new. It is always shocking when he does something that we didn’t teach him. We never really know what they are teaching him at school, so it is funny when he does something new, and we can only assume that is where he got it. Recent things include:
1. Saying more than one word, including “thank you,” and “love you.” Until now it has been one word at a time, but we’re up to two now. They all kind of sound the same so you really have to take it in context of what is going on.
2. He is learning his colors now. Last week everything was purple, now everything is purple or yellow, but every once in awhile something is red. Nothing is green or orange!
3. He loves to make animal noises. Cow, sheep, dog, and monkey have been around for awhile, but now he knows owl, chicken, and duck. And tonight when we were talking about chickens he started flapping his arms like wings – I’m not sure where he learned that one – school I assume.
4. He is putting away his dirty clothes in the dirty clothes hamper. This is my favorite! Juan taught him that, and I love it!
5. Wearing our shoes. He tries putting on our shoes every chance he gets. It’s hilarious to watch him try to walk with huge shoes on his feet.
6. Saying “NO!” This is my least favorite, and something he definitely picked up at school. Juan and I have been very careful about not saying “no,” because I didn’t want him saying it. But obviously at school that is their favorite word. So Mateo has been saying “no” every chance he gets, mostly at the animals. He’ll tell Duke and Bubba “NO” when they get too close to his toys, and he points his finger while he does it. At school they call him the “regulator” because any time a teacher is saying “NO” to a child, they say Mateo comes along behind them and says “no” to the child too.

This is what usually ends up happening at the grocery store. He likes to push the cart. It definitely slows us down, but it keeps him calm, so we have to compromise sometimes.

Swinging at the park.

Mateo got some big wooden puzzles for Christmas, and he loves them.

Trying to go up the slide the wrong way. Unfortunately he can do it when he has on tennis shoes.
Wearing Juan's house shoes.

Stacking the cups on his head, which was strange because he hates anything on his head.
Doing a little yoga - downward dog is his favorite move.

Looking at the chickens.

This was his first encounter with a real cow.
In this video, Mateo was making cow noises. "Moo" is one of Mateo's favorite noises to make.
Here we were looking at the sheep, and the whole time he was talking to them saying "baa."
When we were putting up all of the Christmas decorations Mateo made his own pull toys out of the jingle bells.
When the Aggie game was on, Mateo did some dancing to the Spirit of Aggieland.
In this video, I had called home and was talking to Mateo and he said "love you" to me several times. It was so sweet!
